The Indigo Muse: A Magical Blog

Back to Business: A Tarot Forecast

Even after a long, wild couple of years, you never know when there’s a surprise around the corner. Most of you will know that we closed the shop for just over a week when some of our staff tested positive for COVID. We’re grateful for all the support we received and happy to report that everyone has now tested negative.

This is just one more example of how life can throw you curveballs! It almost seems chaos has become the norm in the world - but we’ve got tools at our hands to help us break through. Let’s take a look at what’s next as we approach the fall equinox and the dark half of the year.

The Spread & Deck

For today’s reading, I used Botanica: A Tarot Deck About the Language of Flowers, by Kevin Jay Stanton. Botanica combines classical symbolism and mythology, applying it to the familiar definitions of the Tarot.

Here’s our very straightforward spread:

  1. This Week
  2. Next Week
  3. Next Month

The Cards

This Week: Queen of Wands
Next Week: Four of Pentacles
Next Month: Six of Cups

The Story

I was fascinated to see how well this reading fit the Indigo Moons team. We have a distinct portrait of reemergence, combined with natural caution, the curiosity of our expectations, and a peaceful way forward. Let’s dive in.

This Week: Queen of Wands

This is a confident, outgoing Queen, always ready with a bright smile and an interesting anecdote. She’s a social butterfly who encourages us to emerge from our shell and engage with the community around us. In the Tarot, Queens represent the principle of creation, and Wands, representing Fire, redouble that principle.

Botanica uses the huluppu tree to represent the Queen of Wands. Sacred to the Mesopotamian goddess Inanna, whose crown also appears in the image, the huluppu was said to bring the spark of natural life to the desert, nourishing the land as it grew.

This is an ideal way to frame the week ahead. What can you create in the coming days? How can you apply your knowledge to your passions and spiritual needs? Whether we choose it or are pushed into it, all of us need a break sometimes - but now is the time to reawaken the parts of us that needed a rest.

It’s the harvest season, when we gather in everything we’ve been cultivating. Don’t wait any longer - get out there and embrace what you’ve created.

Next Week: Four of Pentacles

We’re talking about restarting our momentum at a break, and where have we arrived? At a card that’s about taking a step back! Fours in the Tarot represent respite, reevaluation, and securing one’s foundation. The Four of Pentacles pops up in a place that tells us - after an initial burst of enthusiasm, we may feel some anxiety or caution about our situation.

Honeysuckle appears in this Botanica card, and it’s very fitting. It’s a familiar shrub with a soft, summery fragrance - and a hardy growth pattern that can easily hold back other plants. The four tall beads at the center are wampum, used as currency by indigenous tribes native to the eastern woodlands of North America.

This image speaks to the meaning of the Four of Pentacles - holding on tightly to the status quo, possibly at the cost of embracing good things to come. Don’t focus on stability to the exclusion of the opportunities in front of you. You’ll see better things blooming soon enough.

Next Month: Six of Cups

The Six of Cups makes sense in this position - it represents nostalgia, comfort, kindness, and most importantly - healing. After a busy summer that tossed us around like a kickball, October approaches with the promise of gentler times.

For some, that means returning to people and places we grew up with; for others, we might search for simpler serenity in the life we’ve chosen. Buttercups are the star of this Botanica card - meadow flowers used in children’s games for centuries, along with tiny teacups one might find in a little girl’s playroom.

Remember that you can enjoy beloved traditions - whether it’s those that defined your childhood, or new ones that you create yourself - and that you deserve to. No matter where you came from or where you’ve landed, there’s a place for you to feel loved and welcomed.

Better Days

Many of us have experienced trials throughout the last couple of years, and no doubt there are challenges still ahead. But as we move into the last quarter of the year, we can count on each other for support and comfort. Face the coming months with an open heart, and take every opportunity to enjoy yourself.

We’re taking this message on board, too. Everyone here at the shop is here to help, and we hope you’ll come see us as we journey toward the end of 2021. Let’s celebrate together!
